How to Play the Karaoke Game
The Karaoke game turns NextJam into a shared, sing-along jukebox. One person hosts a live session on a big screen, everyone else joins from their phones, and together you build a queue of songs to perform.
What you need
- A host device with a screen everyone can see (laptop, TV, projector, or tablet).
- A NextJam account to start a session (hosting requires signing in).
- Guests only need a phone and the session code — no account required.
Starting a session (host)
- Sign in and go to Join, then choose Start new karaoke session.
- Decide whether to allow others to add songs:
- On — guests can search the catalog and add songs to the queue.
- Off — only you can add songs, but guests can still watch the queue.
- Select Start session.
You'll land on the host screen, which shows a session code and a QR code. Keep this screen visible — it's the "stage" everyone gathers around.
Joining a session (guests)
There are two ways to join:
- Scan the QR code shown on the host screen.
- Go to Join and type the session code.
If you're not signed in, choose Join as guest and enter a display name. That name is how you'll appear in the session. Once you're in, your phone becomes your companion — your personal remote for adding songs and reacting.
Building the queue
- Open the Add song view on your phone (if the host enabled guest additions).
- Search the catalog by title or artist and add the tracks you want.
- Songs stack up in the shared queue in the order they were added.
- The host can reorder the queue and controls playback from the main screen.
The song at the top of the queue is the one that's up next.
Performing and reacting
- The current song plays on the host screen — grab the mic and sing along.
- From your phone you can send live reactions (👏 🔥 🎉 😍 😂) that pop up for everyone to see.
- When a song ends, the next one in the queue takes over.
Host controls
As the host you can:
- Add and reorder songs in the queue.
- Move to the next song.
- Toggle whether guests are allowed to add songs.
Tips
- Put the host screen somewhere everyone can see and hear it.
- Encourage guests to line up a few songs early so the queue never runs dry.
- Reactions are a great way for the crowd to hype up whoever's on the mic.
Have fun and sing loud. 🎤
